where should a warm idle for the 85 vf500f be at. mine sits at about 3500 rpm at all times is there a way to back it off a bit lower?

i do have a stage 2 jet kit in it ...

    30k miles

valves and carbs recently cleaned and jetted

Check your manual, but I'm guessing it should be somewhere between 1100 and 1200.

There should be a black knob under your carbs (probably the right side) that allows you to raise and lower your idle.

Turning the knob clockwise raises the rpm.

It takes only a little turn to change the idle. I think a full turn will lower it about 1,500 rpm.

If you turn the knob and the idle will not lower, then you may have some issues:

    1. Throttle linkage binding
    2. Brass choke valves not closing completely
    3. Bad carb sync (2 carbs pulling the rest up to the high idle)

If the idle constantly changes almost everytime you stop, you need a carb sync.
