I just got my first bike (85 vf500f) insured and plated yesterday, took it out for a 4 hour ride and noticed that the front end had a hell of a vibration to it. So I was looking down through the front upper fairing and noticed that the front rim was bent like crazy, but the rotors are not. I have noticed from reading on other threads that the cbr rims will swap over but noone says if it is the dirrect rim replacment or if I need the rotors and whatever else. I also noticed that the fork seals are completely shot so this raises another question, how about some different forks? Will a cbr front fender also swap over? Also is there any way to relocate the side stand? It's right were my foot needs to be for the shifter. I have pics to upload but it won't let me right now, it says the website is under maintenance. The things I still need for this bike to complete it are: a paint job, both side covers, a starter solenoid, a cooling fan, a windshield (mine is spray painted), matching rims (if I do the cbr conv. I need both), a front fender, fork seals or replacement forks, the trim around the gauges, and I would like to find out were to go and get the yoshimura pipes that I have seen around on other vf500f's. Other than that though the bike was comfortable especially for a first bike I was out for that long and not sore by the time I got home. I had the g/f on the back too, she said she wasn't all that comfortable tho. I was surprised on how much power it had for not only a 500 but the fact that it hadn't been started in over 3 years before I got it, and all I had to do was get a starter, plugs, throttle cables, a headlight bulb, give the carbs some TLC, and get a battery. I still have less than 200 in it and she starts right up. I do need to adjust the idle down cuz it's about 3k with the choke off. I would like to lower it and make the bike look more like a cbr anyway. I might modify the lower specII fairing with the fiberglass knowledge I have but if I finish it and make it cover the entire motor will it properlly get air to cool the motor itself, cuz the hole for the radiator is obviously going to let air get to that, but I didn't know if the motor needed air also. Motor engine whatever you want to call it anyways. I did visit Daugherty Motorsports website and Jamie has alot of what it seems I need, but beings how this is my first bike I'm not quite sure what some of it is or if there are special tools and/or other parts I need to complete the swap. Thanks

Sounds like you got a good deal, i'm not sure about most of the answers you need, but can give you what I know...

I have a full fairing on my bike, it has a hole for the radiator and that is all, there is a pretty large gap between the engine and the actual fairing, I can give you pictures of how it is set up if you'd like.

The kickstand can be a problem, I don't know what honda was thinking with their placement of it, and I really think the bike leans way to far over on the kick stand so I would like to move mine and make it stand straighter up, how it is now I almost always use my center stand instead of the side stand...

This probably hasn't helped you much, but its all i've got, as for the tires someone else will have to fill you in, but I am also intersted in doing that switch too!

I also have the Yoshi pipes, and I'm thinking about switching back to the stock ones, I may be interested in selling them to you, they are in great shape except for the right one is scratched up a little bit from the previous owner dropping the bike... Let me know

has it been known to put a cbr fairing on a vf500?? Doesn't seem like it would be all that hard just some bracket work and some wiring, Right??? If that would work I bet it'd be oh so good!!

Does anyone know what other swingarms will fit on a vf500f? I'm looking for a little wider tire for that more aggressive look. perferably something that is very close or that will directly bolt in. If anything else does anyone have a vf500f swingarm that is removed to get measurements off so I can track a alternative down?
