    Hi all,
I have been meaning to pull a screw of the float bowls and take it to the hardware store to find replacements. I see stainless replacements for sale on e-bay but just want to replace a few of them that have real chewed up heads, consequently giving me fits everytime I need to clean the jets. Does anyone know the size of the 16 carb float bowl screws off the top of their heads so I can grab a few on the way home from work? Thanks!

You'll usually find the screws at any store with a decent metric selection, but mostly in 2 lengths: too short and too long.

The really elegant replacement for those cheesy screws is similar-sized socket head cap screws (Allens). 4mm head size.

No disrespect, but the screws are not Phillips head (which should be banned) but JIS which are well designed for the application.

More info can be found here:

    JIS - Japanese Industrial Standard

Interesting read on the JIS. No wonder the heads are all chewed up. So 4mm Allens will work, is it a standard thread size or am I going to have to take it in and put it in a guage in the store?

Disregard that last one. I just saw in another post that the screw typically has it's size in the fiche. In carb 4 it says they are:

    23: 062792-7 SCREW-WASHER (4X16)

I may just got get them from the local dealer if they have them in. Guess I need to be easy on them until I can get the JIS tool though. Thanks all!

IC is so very correct, & i'm at a loss. i choose not to be too pedantic, failed to mention JIS standards, used original poster's terminology. Points to IC, shame on me.
