    Be careful

    Nasser,
There are differences in the 84-85 and 86 gas tanks. The biggest is the 84's & 85's used an electric fuel pump to the carbs with a 9MM (roughly 3/8") fuel line off the petcock to the fuel pump and fuel pump to carbs. The 86 is gravity feed to the carbs and uses a 12MM (roughly 1/2") fuel line to the carbs. The other big diffrence is that the petcock mounting tabs are welded at diffrent angles in the tank. I found this all out when I bought a 85 gas tank to replace my rust infested 86 tank. I changed out the fuel lines and tee on the carbs and ran 3/8" fuel injection hose from the petcock to the tee. I have been running that way for 9 months now and have not had a problem. The bike does not show any sign off performance fall off due to the smaller fuel line.

    85 vs 86 VF500F

they are about 90% the same but the gastanks and fuel delivery systems are different, up here in Canada the 85 has a fuel pump and the 86 doesn't and the fueltank valves are different . good luck , jmac.
