I have a 1985 vf1000R it has f1 pipes and a k&n filter i was told that i need a jet kit to make it run right. If i dont it might be running to lean and may burn up my engine. Is this true or are they just rying to sell me something i don't need. And it is just the f1 tips not a complete exaust system. And Thanks to everybody that has been givin me info in this forum it has been very helpful.

Nah, a full jet kit isn't really necessary. I'd suggest shimming the needles only, that will clean up any issues with the midrange. Since the F1 pipes aren't really that great, your stock main jet is just fine.

I suppose the real question is: what driveability issues are you having? Hesitations? Just because someone told you that a jet kit is needed doesn't mean you have a jetting problem!

I don't think that there is really any problem it does have a little back fire when its idling down. Not sure if i'm getting 100% out of the bike but it does have 35,000 miles on it and I think that it is do for a valve adjustment. Just don't know if I'm ready to tackle that one. But I'll get back on here before I do.

I'd probably just leave it alone. The slip-ons mostly cause disruptions in the midrange. This results in a hesitation when getting on the throttle (midrange only). If you aren't experiencing that then I'd say leave it alone.

Keep in mind that you probably won't be getting 100% because slip-ons cause a loss of power on the VF's. It's not much, and primarily in the mid but not so much so in the upper. They won't make more power than stock, but at least they look and sound better!
