If you mover the shifter up or down and it stays in the same gear and doesn't shift could be an easy fix. There is a small spring on the spindle gearshift mechanism that breaks. When it does it won't have tention on the arm to turn the shift drum. There was a recall on them years ago. Ask me how I know............
