Has anyone tried anything other than the standard plug in these bikes? I know in a lot of the other motors I have worked on, I've gotten mixed results with special plugs. Such as Bosch platinum +4's, or Iridium plugs. Most of them claiming compatibility and performance gains but in the end, with few exceptions they all seemed to fall flat or run worse than the original. Just thought I would put it out there since I'm getting ready to go from top to bottom on this bike.

Haven't tried them on my bike , but I always had really good luck with the regular Bosch platinum plugs in 4-Cyl autos including my accord , helped with fuel mileage, smoother running , and as bit cleaner sounding throughout.
Apparently the original Bosch single electrode platinum was the only one with a platinum core all the way through the center electrode.
For larger and carburated (sp) engines NGK V -power seemed to burn well.

Platinum and Iridium plugs tend to give a more consistent spark for longer. Other than that I find using a good quality plug is a better option versus the often high dollar plugs whose claims match the asking price.

For a better hotter spark high out put coils and high end wires are a better option, and unlike plugs they don't need constantly expensive replacement to maintain any gains.

Another good option if available is programmable or upgrade cdi boxes that can release more power to the coils and/or alter the timing curve to take advantage of running premium fuels. Programmable CdI boxes can often offer multiple curves such as one mild curve for regular fuel and riding, and one curve for premium fuel and maximum power , the latter can be hard on the motor if set at the bleeding edge of spark knock.

I know Accel does offer high output coils for the vf series. Not sure who if anyone offers CDI upgrades. Custom options at 1%-3% typical gains are rarely worth the cost of admission, especially for street use.

Pretty general info. There may well be options specific to the VF bikes that I am not aware of. Likely someone here will know of these options.
