Ok, I'm an idiot. Just want to get that out of the way. Last summer the starter switch went out. The bike sat all winter, spring, and summer by the time I got around to installing a new switch. At some point in there, the choke was left on. I drained all the bad gas out of the tank and flushed the carb bowls out several times and it fired up - but the idle won't come down. As it warms up, the revs climb to the red line and I have to shut it down. I thought it might be the choke sticking, but all the slides are moving and returning as they should. I've got the fuel tank and airbox off, so I can access the carburetors easily, everything seems to be working. I can't figure where to go from here - any suggestions from the group?
Air leak past damaged or deteriorated carb mounting boots or misrouted throttle cable or misadjusted idle setting screw or way out of synch ??
what they said..check for small furry rodents , they will sometimes climb into the engine compartment and act like gremlins...
