84 VF1000F Clean Runner - Where Would You Start?

So as previously mentioned, I bought an 84 1kf to relive my good ole days, and just got it running. It's fairly clean with 38k miles on it, and I plan to ride it a little this summer before I take it into the shop for a full tear down.
I don't see the oil conversion on it so that's definitely on the list. The engine could use a fresh coat of paint, but I'm not certain I want to do much more than peak into the valve cover to check the top end.

    So my questions are:
1.) What are some of the other places you would check for problems with these models?
2.) What are some common upgrades worth the time/effort (like the F1 front end?)

I'm still debating if I want to just clean this beast up and restore it to stock as much as possible, then just look for a more sporty daily-driver, or convert this into the bike I want. I love the 1kf for it's heritage and style, but I wouldn't argue with having a 99 viffer in the garage either.

I know the 1kR's are the real collector's items and get the majority of rebuilds/threads it seems so I guess I'm asking that too, are the F's worth the time?

OK, yep, the top end oiling kit is a priority. After that, as long as you have the engine available, check the cam shafts and make sure they are in good condition as than would be the time to scope them out.

Now just go through a routine rebuild, seals, gaskets, fluids, new chain and sprockets.

Than, ride it, unless you're dying for a 99. You will NOT get your money out of it after the rebuild, but they are fun.
