need a little help. took the carb's and cleaned them up with air and carb cleaner. did this 5 times to make sure all was clean, now getting a popping sound out of 1 of the carb's. have not had a chance to sync them yet. could this be the problem??? bike idols just fine ( except the popping ) and runs great when I took it for a short ride.

If you have an air leak around the boot it may cause this. The boots will seperate and tear slightly when installed and it is difficult to tell but it can cause this and gives a temporary false idle . If the boots are original gen 1 boots I would be shocked if they were not suffering from there age.

    what I do

I do love to fix the old ones. I just spent the last six weeks restoring a Vmax my buddy rode the wheels off in 85 but sat in the weather since 93. It looks like a new bike again and he wants to pay me but the pleasure of seeing it on the road again is what I wanted. Nothing more. And we get to ride again.

volks way to go! Bringing back another cool bike. You doing stock colors or your own?

Those carb diaphragms can be a pain to get seated correctly. Sometimes the little o-ring part will cover the vac hole. Then the slide doesn't work right. Or a small edge will pop/fold inside and not in the groove creating a vac leak.

Got any photo's you'd like to share?

bike is already painted in it's stock colors, took awhile putting red and blue over the white. just have to put the decals on. checked the diaphragms to make sure that there were no pin hole and that they did not cover up the vac hole.
