I'm not very mechanically inclined so please bear with me.

today when i went to ride my beauty I noticed that the clutch lever had absolutely no resistance. I started her up and pulled in the lever to shift to first and she lurched and stalled.

the lever isn't engaging the clutch, I think. It's not the cable (is there a cable?) because I opened the pan and put more Dot-4 in there and pumped and the fluid went down to the bleed off spout (no idea what it's called) I loosened the spout and dot-4 shot out and then I tightened it and primed it again. I kept priming it and then bleeding off the pressure to make sure the line was full. the clutch still isn't engaging.

am I doing this wrong or is it something else?

When bleeding look at the banjo connection at the master cylinder. Most of them are actually higher than the bottom of the bowl. You may have to loosen mc and tilt it down in the front. Air will get trapped at that point if it is higher than the bowl floor.

Now for your problem. Your clutch was dead when you went to ride. Not normal for your bike right? The slave cylinder, that pushes on the clutch through a rod in the case may be leaking internal or your master cylinder is. take the slave off and look to see if fluid is present on the outside of it. If no fluid that's a good sign, but not an absolute.

If the bleeding doesn't work then the mc and or slave may need rebuilt(new seals) Both are easy to do. Seeing they are old I would do both at the same time.

    You can get the parts here:Honda | Suzuki | Yamaha | Can-Am | Ski-Doo | Sea-Doo | Motorcycle | ATV | Scooter | Parts | Accessories

The slace seals are in the "Left Crankcase Cover" section. These guys ship fast also.

    Good luck.
