I just bought a factory top case off of a member here for my 6th gen but it doesn't seem to have the passenger backrest on it. Does anyone know if this was an option on the top case? I've heard rumors that it was optional on earlier years but standard for later. Can anyone confirm this?

Dont ask why but my 2007 VFR came with two new 45 litre top boxes (08L55 MCW 8GO) and both came as standard with the upper pillion back rest.

The 2008 UK Honda accessories catalogue only lists an optional lower pad for the same top box (08P60 KJR 800A) for £20.00. However from the descriptions in the catalogue, it seems that the upper back rest pad and internal rubber floor mat were not included with the basically similar 45 litre top boxes sold for the Varadero.

Not sure if that helps, but may explain why its not fitted on your top box.

I've downloaded the installation manual from VFRD and it shows that the pad is included as part of the parts list. However, it also shows that the pad does not come preinstalled to the trunk and that the installer must drill the holes for the two bolts and attach the pad themselves. This makes a lot of sense as there are going to be people who simply do not wish to have that pad installed. There are marks on the inside of the trunk for locating the holes to be drilled as well so there is no guess work involved.

On a side note, thanks for that information. I really wish that I knew why we got screwed in the USA on some of these accessories. I checked out the VFR on honda.co.uk and not only is there an optional lower backrest, but there are also optional armrests. WTF?!? Why don't we get all the cool shit here?

hesitated because I don't remember, it has been so long since I bought mine. I know that it didn't come attached, but I can't remember if that is because I bought them as separate items or not. I never put mine on since I rarely ride with a passenger, and I don't like the looks of it.

I don't think I would have ordered it seperatly, since like I said I rarely have a passenger, but I might have, just to avoid wanting it in the future and finding it had been discontinued. Just because the wife doesn't like to ride passenger, doesn't mean the trophy wife won't!

The next question is do you still have the pad and are willing to get rid of it?
