Anyone know why a rear tire hugger won't fit a 6th gen with ABS? All the listings I see for the 6th gen models from all the manufacturers say "non ABS only" for them.

He He - confusion all around. There is ABS and there is ABS in this case them don't mean ABS they mean ABS - so I hope that clears things up.

Hint : ABS is also the term for a cheapo type of plastic and the better huggers are made of much stronger(more costly) stuff like carbon fibre hence some sellers like to stress their hugger is not made from ABS... and are obvious to the potential confusion this may cause. Hey ho.

PS If its designed for your version of VFR it should fit. :faint:

Hmmm...sounds plausible, until I saw that the manufacturers list many types/models/years of bikes for their huggers, and the 02-09 VFR 800 VTEC is the only one that has the "non-ABS" disclaimer with it. No other bike has this listed with it.

    Just heard from the company...
"The battery box on the ABS version is different, this prevents the hugger from fitting."

Huh? This sound right to you guys? Different battery box?

Maybe go to a parts site and see if the boxes for ABS and non ABS bikes have different part numbers.

Yep...looking for it now. Can't see to find the battery box on the fiche. Logic would say it's with the battery, but these fiche things don't run on logic. Step = footpeg, etc.

I always thought that it was because the hugger helps tidy the cables and the abs cable might not fit or something, battery box sounds plausible too though

I'm also looking for a hugger compatible with an abs model, so let me know if you genius's find/make one

I've messaged the guy who made my CF grab rails about possibly making a CF hugger for the ABS model

The battery box is molded as part of the inner fender.

I don't think it is the battery box that is the issue. There is bunch of extra plumbing for the ABS brakes as well as the cable for the rear shock preload which may be taking up space that the hugger needs.

Well, I checked out the hugger today (from a guy who sold his bike). It was damaged pretty badly on the top...looked like the bike compressed and something gouged it pretty good, so I passed on it. Thanks for the info guys. I'll keep looking for one a little less used...

I DID pick up a flawless silver OEM topcase with keys from him though. Says he got it with the bike and never used it. I believe him from the looks of it. He also had a GIVI screen, but I got one of those when I bought this thing, so I passed on it. Also had an OEM seat and an '04 flat black seat cowl as well.

The gouge could have been from a license plate.

I have stain tubes exhaust and my plate is bent in an arc and screwed to the under seat wheel well area plastic. It messed up my hugger and even contacted the tire once I removed the hugger.

There is more travel back there than I think most people realize.
