Can anybody recommend a rear fender option for the 6th Gen that eliminates the lower hanging part where the reflector resides? I'm not looking for a fender eliminator kit. I want the fender, but I would like it shortened and I am not brave enough to shave it myself as I want it to look professional as opposed to a hack.

If you mark it while it's mounted by using the bodywork as a guide then remove the rear portion of the fender, you can using a fine tooth saw or take it to someone to do it. You should be able to make it look just fine with a clean cut and minimal sanding.

For plastic, will a lightweight sand paper be OK? If so, can you recommend the proper grade?

I checked it out and I am surprised that the fender eliminator kits for the VFR actually look much better than I thought. I decided to just order the Competition Werkes kit and I'll just put my stock fender in storage. Thanks for the tip.

I just put one on my '03 and it looks good. Tip to anyone planning this mod: Loosen the seat cowl and find someone with slender fingers to help!

My buddy actually cut his up on his Repsol... As long as you use a fine blade as noted above and clean it up somewhat only a trained eye will notice that anything was done. I think the material is even thick enough to cut on a slight angle to impart a factory style look. By far the cheapest and simplest solution.

    just do it,

mark it while on the bike,
trim it with above (or use a dremel)
then clean it up with sand paper (heavy grit to shape. then work to finer)
start with 80-120 grit, finish with 220ish

    good luck
