Does anyone know the diameter of the exhaust pipe that goes from the cat to the cans on the 6th gen? I'm at work trying to order some baffles. Why, you may ask? Good question. I cut the end off one of my cans to gut it and found that a) my mig welder must be too weak to make a good weld and b) it looks like a larger project than I want to get involved with so I'm just going to buy new pipes. I'm going with the Laser Extremes cuase they just look good. Before I buy those I figured I'd try something that's been in the back of my mind, which is to cut the cans off the 'up tube' that comes up from the cat and just put some baffles in there. Baffles are ten bucks, so if it's quiet enough it'll save me money on new pipes. Anyway, if someone could supply that measurement I'd greatly apreciate it. I'll get a set of $10 baffles on the way home. If this all works out I'll post some pics. If it's way too loud then I'm putting in my order for new pipes. Thanks!
I will go out and measure it now, I have one on my garage floor that I switched out with a Motad and LV carbon slip on's, be right back.......
The outlet pipe for the cat is 48mm. The inner diameter of the up-pipe to the cans is the same 48mm. I don't know if you've looked closely or not but the pipes leading into the cans are pretty flat.......they are not round, but somewhat of an oval shape..........I hope this helps, but I'm not sure it will. Get your checkbook out for the new slip on's.
Awesome, thanks Norcal! J&B Cycles only has 1.75" and 2" baffles in thier Metric Cruiser section (!?). I ended up ordering a 12" long 2" diameter, and two 4" long baffles, one in 2" diameter and one in 1.75" diameter. Some of the people reviewing the baffels said they were too quiet and needed to be cut down... but that's people running drag pipes. We'll see what happens. I'll cut the cans off right at the top of the straight part of the 'up pipe' comming up from the cat. I'll see which size fits. I may need to do some more grinding and welding. I'll try wrapping them in fiber glass and steel wool to modify the sound. (I've had to re-wrap pipes in a CBR600) My old 1964 Honda Dream 305 had baffles and they really cut the sound down pretty good. If I find a configuration that sounds good I'll weld a pipe up under the seat and place the baffle there. I'll cut in a scalloped 'elf ear' on the tip. I'll end up with a one-up stainless steel deal. If it doesn't work I'll use the pry-bar on the wallet and get those laser-extremes.
