This weekend while i was lubing/adjusting my chain I noticed that there is a small amount of play between the sprocket/hub assembly and the axle/wheel/disc assembly in the plane of rotation. In other words the sprocket can be rotated slightly(less than 1 degree and certainly not noticeable while riding) without moving the wheel. Accompanying the movement is a faint noise when the play is used up and the wheel begins to turn I checked in the service manual and there are no specs listed for play between these parts so I am wondering if this condition is normal. Does anyone else have play between these parts? My thought is that the rubber dampers in the hub may have worn or become brittle but nightmare images of my wheel bearing seizing up at speed keep popping into my head while I'm riding. There is no horizontal play in the assembly. Any insight would be appreciated Thanks in advance

I would think that is normal from this distance. A little movement is to be expected from any cush drive.
