Hi again, Back from the abyss. 2003 vfr800Vtec. NON ABS. bought the bike as a non runner, feul pump not prime issue. cheap fix I thought. eventually after lengthy checks and multiple QandA on various forums, I find the YELLOW plug in the harnes to be almost eaten away with corrosion, duly fixed and soldered up re- 12g wire to frame. Blue plug earth bypass done also, The frame earth under fuel tank was cleaned spotless, new starter solenoid and plug, it was half melted, New 30 amp fuse holder soldered inline at the solenoid. so got bike running with all electrics working as they should, got bike MOT tested no problem. But heres the rub, it wont charge the NEW battery , 2 new batteries tried and the same.( the bike had been lying outside for 5 years). So full checks of charge system and replaced OE R/R with FH020 + 12G wires from stator to R/R and then pos +neg direct to the battery. still no charge. rechecked stator readings and all in spec. unplug hadlamps and 14.2V at running speed but climbing slowly to get there. Connected a remote battery to the 800 charge system and 14.9 volts straight away. reconnected pos and neg leads back onto its own bike and 12.4v. with bike running. Now i have ruled out the generating system with Said remote battery and 3 x 100W bulbs to simulate load and full 14.8volts I assume this would rule out faults in the charging system? I fiitted led bulbs to headlamps to try and can get 14.1 volts with lights plugged in but slow to climb to that voltage. I even tried a cable from the battery to the 2 joined up red/white wires from the old R/R plg which is now redundant, still no charge. I am at a loss with this one. the whole bike works as it should and can ride it in anger for around 80 miles before the volts drop to 12.4. someone MUST have an answer or solution. Do I get a used harness? would it be relatively easy to change? Do i set fire to the bike? Do I give someone else the grief? Its an ornament at this time unless it can be fixed. Its a peach of a bike to ride too that's what is annoying me more than anything.
