Part of dat der stimulus package from "Dubya" and da gals and guys in congress. You might have heard the news today. Not totally final, but close. People with kids get more. Maybe I will buy that new two piece rainsuit I have been putting off! Not to mention, this I should have a decent return coming back as well.

What all you yanks gonna do with your big ones coming back? Off the subject....right now I just want the rain to let up....no end in sight until mid next week. I would rather it just rain like the dickens, get it over with, and then move on. We are supposed to get hammered this weekend :rain:

Mere formalities, I just read that it was done and going to be signed in a couple of days - we should see our checks as early as May! I'm going to buy a shock and help pay it off when I get my check......

The last storm left me without power for seven days, so I'll use my money to offset the cost of gas for the generator and kerosene for heat, particularly if this storm is problematic. Oh, and possibly buy yet ANOTHER windscreen if this new Puig Touring doesn't do what I want. This is attempt number two; I would much rather be saving for suspension upgrades.

NorcalBoy, have you decided on a particular shock? I was thinking about a Penske double-clicker, although I may have to settle for the Penske Sport at the rate I'm accumulating windscreens...

Yes I am seriously considering the Hyperpro 461. Here is the website address:

    http://www.hyperprousa.com/catalog....odel_name=VFR+800+2002>&ordertype=&link3d=yes

These shocks retail for $850.00. I am currently in negotiations with the Hyperpro importers to get one for a lower price and to buy directly from them. I'm not sure if the deal will go through or not, but I'm working on it.

I am also saving the last bit of cash I need to get Traxxion Dynamics AK-20 custom cartridges fitted to my forks with the rebound and and preload adjustment caps. This modification is $1200.00 installed.

that check is already spent. It is some LEO Vince CF cans. Thanks dubya.

I love how we are all getting free money and that is supposed to HELP the economy. Meanwhile I am reading about New Orleans where the gov't has get to rebuild a SINGLE of the destroyed fire stations and some hollywood peeps are pitching in to get them built. Sweet.

That being said. I like money! Bring on the green!

Thanks, Norcal! Hopefully Uncle Sam will send you three checks instead of one. BTW, I'm out in Cazadero, so we're kind of neighbors. Stay dry this weekend!

We are definately neighbors! I was just out your way last Saturday. You don't indicate the type of ride you have in your posts. What are you ridin' these days?

If they did send me three I'd spend 'em and then they would want the other two back later, of course with some absurd penalty attached because it would be my fault for cashing them... I think I'll just hope for one $600.00 check - if I get my deal worked out, that might just about cover my shock.

The weather isn't lookin' so good, even right now, for this weekend. They are saying chances of flooding and possibly 3-6 inches between today and tomorrow. It looks like no riding for quite some time around here :frown: This is a total bummer because I'm going to the Supercross in SF tomorrow and it will be a shitty rain race........

I considered myself lucky, my Roth increased by a whopping 2.45%:frown: It's a sad day when some checking accounts do better than that..... I guess it was better than losing, sorry to hear that you guys. I hate to see folks lose hard earned money like that, hell, if you knew you were going to give it away, you probably would have bought yourself something with that money. Like maybe some $3.50 a gallon gas  . Hopefully Bush's stimulus package will help a little, but I think the home mortgage debacle has got us all in a pinch for at least 2-3 more years. I think the Fed lowering the prime rate will do more than anything. But hey, I need a new shock and I won't cry about free money.

What's a ROTH? You can tell I stay right on top of this stuff... Me, I'm a firm believer in mattress money. It annoys me that funds and/or investors make money even if I lose money. Now that I think about it, a lot of things annoy me. Guess I'm not old enough yet to start mellowing with age. If the mellowing process doesn't start soon, it will be too late.

Norcal; '07 VFR and '00 SV650. Also an '83 CB1100F that needs a bit of love (I've had it a long time and it was my only bike for... a long time).

Good luck at the Supercross! The landings should be interesting.

Short for Roth IRA. That is Roth Individual Retirement Account. Doesn't invest your money in stocks/mutual funds like a 401K. Earns money from interest only far as I know....which is not much.

There are just plain IRA's as well.

I'm not sure on that. I thought you could invest it however you choose, but you can't withdraw until retirement without penalty. the BIG advantage to a Roth is that you invest after tax dollars so the governemnt cannot tax you on gains. Traditional IRA, you are banking that you hit a lower tax bracket when you retire so that when you withdraw your money to use, the government taxes you on gains, but at the lower bracket. The Roth is the money maker or should be anyway whenever the market turns around again. I just moved my money out of the fund I had and will be back in a money market acct again tomorrow. I'd have made a couple bucks if I had left it there in the first place. I may try some individual stocks. Who knows, I have even considered actually buying gold to have something tangible for once. It's amazing how much money we make that we never see. It's all electronic.

That's the smartest thing I've seen yet.

Now I'll leave my self open to catching some heat rounds...

This has to be the dumbest thing I've seen out of the Bush admin yet. We have a national debt that is the highest in history, a war that we still can't pay for, gas prices that are going out the roof, BUT HEY we give every other 3d world crap hole money so why not give some back to the American people. When I heard Bush's speech it reminded me of a bonus program I helped to start at my work. You hit your goal you get an extra $1 an hour. You'd be surprised how hard a person will work for an extra $40 a week. Their idea is to stimulate the economy and most Americans will do just that until it's all spent. What they should be stimulating is our savings accounts, government bond rates, IRA's, and residential mortages. The sad part is that most Americans believe that economic stimulas generates jobs for Americans. Wrong, that's why the Chinese, Japanese, and European markets are dropping like a rock: We don't buy - they don't make money. America soaks up more of the gross global exports than any other nation.

Just something to think about when we're buying our new toys. Now before I get hit with both barrels: I say all this and I will be recieving $1800 back. Wonderful - I'll add it to my rainy day savings account. ...I'll get off the box now:blah:

Mine will likely hit my daughters 529. I have a goal of getting the house paid off by her 18th birthday and not having to dip into equity for her college funds. We'll see how that goes.
For noobs looking at mutual investments, try ticker RYTRX, Royce total returns. Better than average return, low risk and a 5 star morningstar rating. Those who aren't risk adverse can do a lot better, but I'll assume those types are trolling on their own.

Outperforming the S&P and Dow for 5 years on this chart, except for the past couple weeks spells buying opportunity. Downturns aren't as bad as the market at large, as you can see.

An no, I'm not attached to this fund except for he pittance I can apply to it, amongst others now and again.

That's exactly what I did with the last check that Bush sent out, and probably what will happen to this one. Figure if they're going to have to pay this silliness back they might as well be best prepared to do so.

They're saying that on average, you can expect anywhere from $300 to $1200. The more kids you have, the more you'll get. I've got 3 of them, so I'm hoping to be on the higher end of that. With the economy the way it is, I'll will probably just bank whatever I get. If I was still single, then my response would be totally different. I'm sorry that I won't be using my refund to stimulate the economy. It's already in the toilet and this half baked idea won't do anything to help it.

The return is proposed to be $600 each for married ($1200), and each kid is $300... for a max of $1800. I think that if you made more than $175,000 combined (married) you don't get one. I don't know too many people that made that much last year.

Sorry derstuka, I didn't mean to turn your post into a political flury. AND this is the only time you'll ever see me say this. "I Hate BUSH"; he should keep the money and use it to give proper military funerals for the men and women that his stupidy, and arrogance killed.
