I bought a set of 4th gen bars on ebay and they look like a strait on drop in on my 5th gen. The only concern is whether the switch gear will hit the tank on full lock.

    - Anybody do this mod? Would be nice in advance to figure out what I'm getting into.

BTW - You 4th geners - If you wanted taller bars the 5ths are drop ins too. They are taller by about 13mm - 1/2 inch.

    Thanks!

    Hi

Shouldn't be a problem, but you will need to get the matching bar-end weights as they are different. The 4th gen bars are solid alloy, where the 5th gen are hollow with inserted damping weights - you may feel more vibes with the solid bars.

Note also that not all 5th Gen bars are identical - the top yoke changed at some point during the life of the 5th gen, and the locating tabs may not be in the same place ..

    - The 4th gen I have are 1995's and my bike is a 5th '98. The locating tabs on both are directly on the outside in the same position. On the bar ends - I'll go trial and err on those - I like the 4th heavier ones better anyway.

hmm, I was wondering about something related to this. I recently changed my bar end weights to some after-market ones and I noticed vibes when I let go of the bars at high speeds where I used to have none. I wasn't sure if it was the new weights or my front tire was wearing out...
