Well the short story is that I think when I placed my seat on my 1998 5th gen VFR after I did some maintenance I did not slip that thing in front of the seat under the "U" bar and I then forced it into the lock in the rear. Now I cant remove the seat and when I attempt to push the lock release lever down it hardly moves. Has anyone gone through this before? Any ideas on how to remove the seat with out breaking the locking mechanism?

Did you try pushing down on the rear of the seat while you are depressing the seat release lever? At the same time I mean? Try pushing down on the seat and/or wiggling it as you push the release lever down.

Tried that but only by myself. I may have to enlist the help of my neighbor and then try a crow-bar :frown:

Do not use a crowbar. If you need to, take off the rear cowl, and that might give you some extra play/access to the lock. You should be able to take the rear cowl off without having to remove the seat. It will be trickier, but with a little ingenuity you can do it.

The cowl isnt on the bike (its never been on the bike). I just need to be able to take the seat off because sometimes I use the little bit of space under it as storage.

Had that happen once. If memory serves, had to push down on the seat while pushing down the latch. Then lifting up on the back of the seat (latch still being held down) and pushing back down several times. Cussing like a sailor definetly helped the process

Hey Dino - Would it help if you loosened the bolts that secure the front of the tank, to possibly give you some play in the seat? Just a stretch... Good luck bro.
