Just picked up a copy of UK Mag " WHAT BIKE ? " Used BIKE Guide " and was totally unsupprised to see VFRs 5th Gen winning the " Sports Touring " category of 31 bikes and only ST receiving 5 Stars Overall. :first: Overview: Probably the best VFR ever built. A true sports tourer even though its predecessor started life as a full sports bike. Handling: The suspension is soft enough to give a plush ride but still firm enough to be massive fun through any set of corners. Engine: V4 is one of the best ever Japanese engines with a good spread of power in the mid range and real top end rush. Equipment: Great Headlights, good mirrors, a centrestand and the clocks include a fuel guage, ambient and engine temperatures. Owning: Great Range, with 180-200 miles possible out of a tank of fuel. Build quality is good and high milages common. Value: Used prices arn't cheap even for an older bike but when you sell it you won't lose much if you look after it. Overall: ***** For: Comfort for both rider and pillion Built to last Snappy handling. Against: Rotting Exhaust ( presume due to UKs salted winter roads ) Hard to work on. A bit bland for some. ( not me )
I bought a brand new 1999 model and I would agree. It was a great bike in all categories. My buddy bought the bike, so I still get to see it. I'd love to own it again some day .........
