Hey guys, Im going to look at a cheap, running vf750 tonight (1983). It is a pa salvage certificate and I live in WV. I am going to probably get it for 350$ range and was wondering if this is a good deal and what to look for. I have no experience with these bikes besides for seeing my friends vf500. Are there any huge concerns I should look for? The front cowl seems to be replaced with that of the 1984 color scheme and there is a ding in the gas tank.

Could anybody give me a list of look-for's?

Cam wear which you can't see without removing the valve covers. If it has good cosmetics then it's probably worth the gamble at that price.

If it runs, that's a great deal. A couple of weeks ago I sold a complete, somewhat rough around the edges, non-running 84 VF700F for $400.

Just listen for top end noise and don't be surprised if the suspension is shot. Otherwise if it runs and rides then I'd buy it.

A compression test is a necessity, but that model has too many potential problem areas to be a reliable ride. Find something newer.

People all over the USA who own the problematical VF series bikes, most of which have outlived their useful life, are now trying to get rid of them at any low price they can get; don't be a victim.

On ther other hand, just like medical students cut up cadavers, old VFs provide useful lessons in obsolete machinery for young, optimistic mechanics.
