3rd to 4th gen fork swap.

    When I bought my 90, the seller gave me a brand new fork from a 95. I assumed by what he said that it's a direct swap. Is that the case? Is this even worth doing? What should I do to it before I install?

    Guess I need to ask why to the swap? is there only one fork or both? I'm thinking they fit but you'll need both, but looking through the shop manual they are different inside then theres the brake caliber mount to conceder if they line up. Just a few things to look at, if you only have one, then no it's not worth it.

    Pardon me. I consider the front suspension of a motorcycle to be one fork. Maybe I'm wrong.
    This is 2 tubes and the lower triple clamp.
    The brake mounting is the same measurement as my bike. The length is the same.

    LOL no well for me theres 2 and you mention fork not forks LOL so easy to get what not is meant huh. there ya go.. then just maybe now it's worth it.

    I think of it as looking like a fork. One tube looks like, well, a tube.

    The biggest reason I have is I can change the valving and springs while my bike is still operational. Also, this has preload adjustment whereas mine has none.

    Order new allen bolts on the bottom of the forks if you are going to be removing the cartridge. I had to drill mine out as the ends stripped off. If you drill it our be VERY careful. I over did one and drilled part way into the flat sealing service of the copper washer. JB weld as been holding ok though. Dont worry I already have a replacement fork ready now. Order and install new seal and dust boots. Oder a new set of racetech springs at the minimum and the gold valves if you got the cash. New 15w fork oil, is what I used. Good time to also replace your steering head bearings and front wheel bearings. Brian
