This was the first "long" trip for the girlfriend and I and she was a trooper. The bike is an 03 VFR 800 with Helibars, BLS lowering blocks, and a Corbin on it. Other mods, but not of the comfort variety. We started out in Vancouver, WA and made our way to the Oregon coast and down highway 101 to Florence. The goal was to hit a few check points (8) along the way and see what kind of time we could have together on the bike. Before this the longest trip together was about 250 miles and then over night at the coast. We had planned to do about 400 miles a day for 2 days and an easier 300 miles for day 3. I had done a 500 mile day on my own a couple of years ago on my old ZX6E so I was sure this would be better. I was right.

Day 1 started in Vancouver, WA where we live. Headed out West to the coast and a little place along the way called Olney, OR. Then made our way to Oceanside, OR and on down to Florence for the last check point. We left at about 9:45 and ended our journey 387 miles away in Reedsport, OR to stay the night. The hot tub was fantastic and the beer was even better. We ran into a guy at breakfast that was there from Minnesota. Nice guy. Talked bike for a bit and then we headed out.

Day 2 began about 9:30 and would be the longest day of the trip mileage wise. We headed South to Williams, OR near Grants Pass, then on to Tenmile, OR, and Butte Falls, OR and finally to Crescent Lake, OR for the last check point before getting to La Pine for the night about 9:00. What a beautiful ride. The weather and scenery were just perfect. This was our longest ridding day and also the hottest day since we were so far South. The hot tub was even better than before and the beer tasted was more refreshing. By this time we had put about 800 miles down. 387 the day before and 420 on day two and the seat was becoming an issue. Every stop we made it actually started to hurt to get off and on the bike and we agreed to stop every 30 minutes for an ass break. That was a good choice.

Day 3. I hate the motorcycle seat. Not dislike, actual hate. We had 300 miles and one more check point to go. So we left again around 9:30 and made our way to Marion Forks, OR and had lunch and we tried to envision how we could get back on the bike for 2 more hours. After some pep talks and some chanting we finally decided to throw a leg over and get on with it. We arrived home around 6PM after getting hit with a little traffic coming in through Portland and we were all set. This last leg was the prettiest in my opinion as we came along the Sisters mountain range, Mt. Washington, Mt. Jefferson, Three Finger Jack and of course Mt. Hood. A truly amazing drive that I have taken many times. One of my favorite in fact. Great to live so close to such nice scenery.

Total mileage about 1100+ miles after some wrong turns. We both had a blast but decided that we needed a seat cover from Alaska leather to make the next trip more comfortable. Overall I was very impressed with the VFR. No problems at all on the trip. We did roughly 80 miles an hour the whole time with a *cough* couple of pokes above that. I have the three piece factory luggage and it was more than enough room with my tank bag. I actually left the top case empty to put our helmets in when we stopped. Then I took the tank bag in to map out the next part of the trip. I could easily do another 2 days with the space I had left in each bag.

The BLS lowering blocks and the Helibars were a gift from heaven. I did not have sore knees or arms/shoulders at all. Just my butt. And I would imagine the Corbin seat is better than stock although I never sat on a stock seat on one of these. Mine was on when I bought the bike. I think with this pad it will be a perfect setup to put some more miles on. Next trip is roughly 1400 miles so we will see what kind of things come up. All-in-all it was a great trip and I had fun on the bike with my girlfriend. It was nice to get away and have some fun together. Like I said before, she was a total trooper and had a good time too, even if her ass was as sore as mine was:)

I think the full bags and passenger helped a lot. A couple of times I thought I was done for but they never lit me up. I bet if I was on a gixxer I would have gotten a ticket.

Oregon is a worse state for giving out speed tickets especially riders or divers from out of state. :chaingun:

Before buying a new seat, I decided to try a BeadRider a couple of years ago and have not regretted it. I have put on 1,000 mile weekends and just did 700 miles from Friday night to Saturday night, all without butt pain. I also have the helibars and peg lowering blocks.

Yep, if ya blast through small burgs riding like you think Stoner rides, the local LEOs or the Oregon State Police are gonna get you. Over the ton, you and the bike go bye-bye. 80 on 101 is a bit fast for Summer conditions, tourist cagers ect. 80 on the slab is done regularly.

Seats? Yes friends, another whoopy for Rich's Custom Seats. Home of the non-cookycutter seats.
