Very neat but I really dont think I would use it at all. Honestly and truly... even around town. Of course that video leaves a lot to be explained and my opinion could very well change.

For instance... that video showed shifts occurring at very low RPM while under minimal load. If the shift points were varied depending on the load, that might make it much more practical. It would really suck being in automatic mode and going to pass someone only to have it shift early and kill your speed.

The comment that they made in the video about the dual clutch transmission making it easy and simple to operate so that anyone can operate a sport bike is full of crap as well. Riding a sport bike isn't any different than riding a cruiser, full touring bike, or a dirt bike. Clutch, throttle, shift lever... they are all the same no matter what you ride (excluding scooters...). The only difference is how the power applied and available at different speeds.

One more thing that nobody asked for, one more thing to hope nothing goes wrong with...

Perhaps the 2012 model will only have a passenger seat and a GPS console to enter your destination into. The motorcycle will drive you there with no flawed user input.

I like the satisfaction of well-coordinated clean shifts, myself.

This will let those less coordinated to be able to ride motorcycles now. Like the moped/scooter people. So the bar gets lowered on some powerful machines so average uncoordinated Joe can ride. This just may create a different class of squids.

The paddle shifters are neat. Just wonder how you blip the throttle for fast, high rpm down shifts. Or if that only can be done in full manual mode? It's got to add a good cost to the bike that I don't really want or want to pay for. If you have a electrical problem will you still be able to use full manual? Or does the clutch go out to lunch and become unusable? I would hope full manual would be the default whether the auto/paddle has a problem.

It is neat for bragging rights on owning the first auto/paddle shifter bike. They have had auto before without much success. This though may change that. Got to admit Honda is doing more than just thinking ahead. They are doing it.

Interesting! Look up these trannies on the net, (twin clutch/dual clutch) they have been out for a while and they work..Of course the shifting will change depending on load, throttle position, etc...just the same as every auto in every car.
It seems to be the coming thing in autos, gonna hear a lot in the next yr from many makers,as they say it will replace the current automatics.. and its out now in some performance cars and the testers love em..claim u cant do it as fast yourself..If thats truly the case..might be fine..But I own a bike cause i like shifting gears, just like my car, but if i have a choice and it does shift like lightning...then fine, more to fiddle with...If i need to have a giimick, at least this I can override unlike the vtech, so why not have the newest stuff out on their techno leader?.. This is totally a different animal than a clutchless cb750 from the 70's..:)
Looking much forward to a ride to see what this bike actually is and will do, and i will get one come spring..then I will know, and only then....:)

Hmmmm....a dual-clutch....I do love new technology, however, it makes it kinda look/feel like an overgrown scooter on one hand. I guess on other hand, it would be great for folks in "non-lane-splitting" states to suffer thru traffic congestion. This is what happened with the 6th gen VTEC..it trickled down from car/racing technology. Too bad it will bring lots more folks that don't belong on a bike into the game.

I found a video....not sure if anyone has posted this one yet.

Cool vid. Gotta say that the sillouette of that bike in the video looks an awful lot like those spy pics we've all seen. I guess if nothing else we get to see what the instrument cluster on the new VFR looks like. Not sure about that auto-trans yet.

    Did I see that right?

I don't think I would ever use any mode except manual, I like shifting. The thing I noticed, it was showing 86mph at 3,000 RPM in 6th.

I think I could get used to that. That's versatility. Think about it, being in bumper to bumper traffic and your left hand is fatiguing and cramping from holding in the clutch.

I remember on the that show SUPERBIKES, there was a shop in San Fran area that did custom bike work and the owner demo'd a button shifter on a sport bike.

which one of us asked for this?

I was looking for a sporty update, 140 or so HP and sub 500lbs with a rectifier that works and no VTEC. All this technology is not on my shopping list.

We only want to Help you, signed Sen. Mepuke

All manufactures need to appeal to as many people as they can. It makes the share holders happy.

Now, with the duel clutch and auto shifting; we will see a blistering ad campaign to attract the milk toast waifs who are on the fence about having both hands and both feet possibility doing something all at once. OH Teh HORROR…..

    Hmmmm, what else will happen…

The accident rates will rise shortly thereafter, Senator Mepuke will declare new safety standards will be enacted. "I declare mandatory safety beacons on all helmets, air bag gloves and NFL shoulder pads along with gel mouth guards built-into all helmets". Renew your hi-hazard special method of transportation registration (motorcycle) and you’ll receive a Government issued micro chip ignition key. Covertly recording all activity during your hi-hazard rides. Over the speed limit, you now receive the ticket by e-mail.

Bikers will be surreptitiously hunted down by the government until we’re all riding automatic 3 wheelers with old Hershey Park roller coaster restraints retrofitted from the outlawed Super Duper Looper.

I’ll be back my tin foil hat just blew off….. I can’t type without my hat.

It’s raining tonight and I got carried away

I've always thought that there were a certain set of attributes that a mechanical device has that makes it what it is. If you can operate this thing just as we do now then having the addition of the auto mode doesn't bother me. If however the manual "semiauto" mode is too digital and not real then it could be a deal breaker. Time will tell I guess.
