Would someone please let me know what the approximate operating temperature for my 08 might be? I took a look at the temp gauge during some around town riding and saw anywhere between 202 and 220 degrees. Is this normal? I did hear that the fan was on so I didn't pay further attention, however, I am new to VFR's and I cannot find anything in the owners manual about correct temperatures.
    Thanks

As I recall, this information is discussed in the manual, but I'm too lazy to go to my garage and get the manual from my top case. At any rate, I've always left my 2007 VFR's temp. gauge set to read ambient temperature rather than coolant temp. As I vaguely recall from the manual, if the bike computer senses overheating while the gauge is set to ambient temp., I think that this display reverts to flashing a warning if the coolant temp. gets too high. Again, not sure about, but this is what I seem to recall when I last read the manual.

My VFR has never flashed this high temp. warning, so I don't worry about it. My bike's radiator fan comes on from time to time, and that's good since it's just doing it's job. In my opinion, regularly displaying and watching the coolant temp. (rather than ambient temp.) may be an invitation to becoming distracted and fixated on a number.

That said, I avoid idling the engine during prolonged stops such as traffic jams, even in cold weather. I shut her down and restart once it's time to move on. And, FWIW, I also have the coolant replaced with Honda pre-mixed coolant after each riding season, and I'm also now running Red Line 10-W40 synthetic motorcycle oil.

That sounds normal especially for warm weather.

    Cruising... About 185º (55/60 ; 4th/5th gear)....
If I bring the rpm up I can get over 200º.....
Taking it easy in town with traffic lights,it can get up to the magic # 221º...
