I have searched and everywhere I look I get conflicting answers. Does anyone know for sure which bulbs are in the 2008 headlights (both highs and lows)? The service manual I have shows different ones with different part numbers for each, 55w h7 for high and 60/55W no designation for lows yet the "owner’s manual" that came with the bike says it takes 4 h4's and I can see h4 on the lower lights looking through the lens but can't see the tops and don't want to rip the bike apart at this point to figure it out if there is someone that knows for sure. The reason I ask is I was looking at the Signal Dynamics headlight modulator and the options are either dual h4's or dual h7's, no option for both h4 and h7 (it appears that the SD wiring has connections for 4 separate bulbs). If anyone has the SD modulator any comments on it would be greatly appreciated.

Low beams are 2 H4 60/55 and high beams are 2 H7 55w. I have replaced both with LED's and even tried higher wattage lamps (not recommended). Mine is a 2003, but there should not be a production change in 2008. Since you run on your low beams 99% of the time, I would go with the dual H4 modulator.

Forgot to tell you, even though the lower lights are H4's, the high beam filaments are not connected, only two wires going to each socket, from SD's web site, it looks like their unit will function fine, but you should call them and verify, based on how the VFR lights are wired.

How do you like the leds? Did you have to do any other modifications due to the reduction in power consumption?

I am still trying to figure out whether I did this for the performance or for the challenge of something to do!

My main mod beside the lights was replacing my R/R with an Shindegen Series R/R to compensate for the reduction in wattage.

My project started by replacing the incandescent lamps with higher wattage lamps. Really bright, but ran battery flat after 3 days! Slight miscalculation.

Then I replaced both H4 & H7 lamps with LED units. H4's failed twice, so I went with lamps without fans. Ok so far.

I think any great headlight system is an optimized design of the reflector for the lamp filament (or LED), not sure whether LED's with large illumination area rather than the pinpoint source of a filament produces a better beam spread. I would have to put 2 VFR's side by side at night to tell.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I need to give Signal Dynamics call let them know i have both a pair of H4's and H7's and see what they recommend. LED's would be nice but at this stage probably not feasible.

Making headway with the light bulbs and installing the SD headlight modulator. Seems that even though Honda uses 2 different bulbs they use the same connector just move the wires. I have attached photos. The one with the tape measure is for the top H7 high beams and the other with just my hand is the bottom H4 low beams. Talking with SD their H7 dual harness actually uses H4 connectors they just leave out the 3rd wire so it may be possible to just use the dual H7 harness and move the connection locations within each connector to match with that particular bulb. Hope that makes sense as I haven’t had any coffee yet this morning. I'll let you know how things progress.
