Hello all, first post here, the bike is new to me and was a STEAL, but its having issues. All my experience with bikes comes from my 1943 Harley, so this is a separate world to me

Symptom: Bike wont run, it cranks over happily, and will run on starting fluid, but not under its own power

    What have i done?
    • New injectors, sat for awhile with bad fuel and figured it was best to replace
    • starter is happy, and has enough power
    • Battery is good, doesn't sag and is only a month old
    • dont believe its the start valves/wax thing, its still summer here
    • Spark has been verified, didn't have a test light so i shocked myself a few times
    • Kickstand/clutch safety are good, as is tip sensor, bike cranks and tries to start
    • Ground connections all checked, aswell as fuses/relays
    • Fuel pump does prime, with no FI codes
    • Checked fuel pressure regulator, not pouring gas into vacuum port so i dont believe the diaphragm is torn, ive seen that posted here
    • drank and stared at it for a bit

At this point im assuming its either a fuel pressure issue, or the Injectors aren't getting pulsed. Test equipment has been ordered, just figured id throw this in here incase im missing something obvious

I pulled the plugs and they seem dry, that's why im leaning towards it being a fuel issue

And tips for testing fuel pressure?

Did it run before you touched it?

Kinked, bent or blocked fuel line? Blocked fuel filter? Run the Fuel Pump flow and pressure tests in the Service Manual section 5.

bleh. This turned into a crap shoot. here's how it went

    Flow test, passed perfectly, sweet
    Pressure test. Hm. zero.
Pressure regulator wasnt leaking gas, so maybe its just stuck open?
Plugged return line, still no pressure.
Pump is only a year old, weird.
    ugh. Drain tank.
    spill 25 gallons of gas.
    Pull pump assembly.

When the shop replaced the pump, they neglected to replace the 20 year old hose inside the tank. it split

Thankfully this isnt the shop that did the rebuild, but im just amazed that they cut that corner.

20 cents of hose later, bike is running like a dream.

Letting an "expert" touch anything these days just means that you'll have to pay them, then likely do the work properly again anyway!
