    Hello all,

I am new to VFR site and a bike world all together, so bare with me if the questions sound rediculous.

I bought the 2003 VFR with only 6,000 miles on it (man it looks awesome) but here is a glitch:

When you start it up, and quickly rev it up to about 5,000 rpm and let go right away it blows black smoke a bit.

If you gradually bring it up to hi rpms, no smoke.

The only things I know about the bike is that it has not been riden for a year and I just took it to a different dealer and he for an oil change (I don't know if it was smoking before that)

    Is this normal?

    Thanks a lot

Black smoke is usually unburnt fuel but I'm not sure. But why do you rev it up to 5k right after startup? I'm unsure of any advantages of this.

I would have to say that ssing how bike is not warmed up yet and choke ( high idle circut ) is on that the smoke is normal.try letting the bike reach temp of 120 + and try reving up to 5,000rpms and see if you still get the smoke.
worst case valve seals are leaking a bit giving you smoke at start up.
