Just picked up an '02 VFR800 that has a questionable maintenance history with about 9,200 miles. The first thing I want to do is replace all the fluids, but I don't have the owner's manual for it.

Anyone have the specs for how much I need to fill the radiator and engine oil?

There is a pdf manual here on the site. Make sure you use silicate free coolant. Just get the honda coolant from local shop or engine ice or motul coolant. They are safe for your radiator and water pump. Sine it was used look at new tires too unless you have a solid feeling about them.

I'm not a registered member yet so I can't download the manual. Not sure how long that takes to get approved, but I was hoping someone might be kind enough to look it up for me so I can get that done this weekend (today!).

Overall the bike is in ok shape, it just doesn't seem like it's been maintained well.

The left fairing is cracked and has some rash where it was layed down, probably at pretty low speed, and is missing the right mirror. Go figure. The brake and clutch fluids look pretty dirty and the rubber mounts for the gas tank show some cracking. Plus it's missing a few bolts here and there.

The tires aren't bad - rubber is in good condition, plenty of tread on the rear, though the front is about ready to be changed. Hydraulic hoses seem fine, and best of all the engine runs perfectly.

I have a new front tire, breaks all around, chain & sprockets and a new mirror on order. Once those are in I plan to tear it down, clean/lube everything, replace any missing bolts, screws, etc. and bondo/epoxy the damaged fairing.

A few hundred bucks and some TLC and I think it will be in pretty good shape. Then I can start looking at aftermarket mods...

My bike is well maintained, fluids every year, tires, chains when needed etx. But it looks like hell on the right side. Laid it down and has scratches. The damage is only two weeks old. Since the fall, I have been reading up on repair since there is a slight crack. This stuff called plasticfix looks promising. Also, color rite has the paint i need for the bike.

    Anyway, good luck and welcome.

Sorry to hear about your bike. My last bike was the same way - meticulously maintained and garaged, except mine was stolen about 4 months ago. That's why this time I'm going for cheap-but-runs-good.

I'll check out that plastic fix. I plan on leaving the fairing looking beat up for a while (paranoid about theft now) but I need to at least fix the structural issues with it.

    Thanks for all your help.

    From my 2004 manual:
    Coolant - 3.09 US qt
Oil - 3.3 US qt after draining and filter change.
