I have a 2002 that the electrical system goes completely blank at times. The first few times it happened after slowing down coming off of an freeway exit ramp. (not to dangerous but kind of scary) Last night I went to pass a car on a two lane road and it went completely dead during acceleration to pass. (very scary and dangerous)
If I turn the switch on and off a few times it usually powers back up but sometimes it takes a few tries. There is no consistency and sometimes it will run for a month without having a problem. I am wondering if it might be a ground issue or? Any thoughts or ideas would be deeply appreciated.

Pull the left fairing. Start the bike and then move the blue and grey connectors around. if the bike dies then there you go! Could also be the kill switch.

Check your battery connector, all the harness and all the connectors while you at it, check stator voltage as well.

Thank you for the ideas. I was out of commission for the weekend but will be checking both of these this week. Your help is appreciated.

My guess is it is a bad ground! I had that happen on another bike I owned......check the main ground bus, the battery connections, etc.

Thanks for the input. I wanted to follow up with my conclusion. I traced the kill switch wiring and the plugs on the handlebar were loose and one was falling out. I plugged them in tight and so far all seems to be working well so far. I can only hope the solution was this easy. I was so focused on grounding issues that I skipped the simple kill switch possibility. Thanks again for the ideas.
