Back in October my fantastic wife bought me a 2000 VFR800 for Christmas. There was a caveat attached in that I was not allowed to pass out dead when I first saw the poor old girl. That made me a bit nervous but she assured me that mechanically she was in good shape but the cosmetics left a lot to be desired. Keep in mind that my last bike was a pristine condition 97 VFR750 that got a bath after every ride and lived outdoors only when being ridden or sitting in the sun while we cleaned out the garage. My last bike was certainly well used but I and my wife will admit freely that my VFR led a pampered life.

The new to me VFR800 led a much different life. I think the exterior of the bike received the odd splash with a hose but that was about all. I'm not sure the fairings were ever removed except by the dealer during all, and I do mean all, the recommended services. The previous owner certainly kept up on the maintenance, he just wasn't a big fan of the wash bucket and wax pad.

I was curious as to the scratches on the fairings and whether the bike had been laid down. All the scratches run vertically not horizontally which made me think the bike had just fallen over a couple of times. Apparently I was correct. The previous owner (an ex-police officer) forgot the kick stand once (hence the left side damage) and tried to push the bike off his balcony into his apartment with the disc lock in place (hence the right side damage). He was able to get the bike in his apartment block's freight elevator (converted warehouse) and store it outside on his balcony. Apparently the bike saw a lot of riding but by his own admission a clean bike was not as important as a reliable one. I would not even dream of posting the pictures of the bike in the condition my wife acquired it in as most people would cringe. Needless to say my wife got a fantastic deal on the purchase. I have spent four months cleaning her to the best of my ability and removing the dents from the tank. All of the dents had paint chips in the center and none were bigger than half the diameter of a dime so obviously not caused by a crash, well not while moving along at more than a snails pace any way, and certainly consistent with the precious owner's admissions.

I will post some photos of the good old girl once she is all back together but for now I will see if I can post some pics of the new exhaust my wife purchased for Easter. I guess the bike just didn't sound as good as the last one and I would have to agree. The exhaust is a brand new Delkevic 18" Slip-On that we picked up for $175 including shipping to Canada and all applicable taxes. We both would have preferred a Staintune, as I am sure most of you would agree, but this certainly does the trick. Much more throaty growl than the stock unit and at a paltry 6 lbs, certainly a fair bit lighter.

I have attached a couple of photos of the new pipe or at least I hope I have. As a newbie to this website I have not yet tried to post any pictures so I hope this works.

    mark it 8, dude
    nice score from santa wife

better a cosmetically challenged well maintained bike than the opposite
lottza bikes around with sludge for oil, but plenty of CF and neon accents.

i too would prefer a hi-mount staintune for my 5th gen,
but probably get a delkevic due to the bang for the buck.
ive yet to read anyone disappointed in the delkevic can for the $

As someone who's bike get's rather bug splattered (live near orchards) I say post the before pics. Seriously, it'll be a before/after type thing.

Oh and congrats on your new ride :)
