Hello to everyone. I've just bought a 2000 VFR with 3600 miles on the clockfor £4000. Beautiful looking bike, but already I'm thinking it's a pig. When I picked it up the clock was at 1am which meant nothing to me at the time. The bike went well for a week then one day I started it up with no problems, rode to a petrol station 4 miles awaay, filled up, then the bike wouldn't start and the clock re-set to 1am. Since then the bike has generall ran okay with on 4 or 5 occasions it has refused to start, each time with clock re-setting to 1am. Having read about reg/rec problems and spoken to the local dealer he checked the battery and pronounced the reg/rec to be overcharging the battery at 14+ volts. He recommended a new reg/rec which I fitted today. Went to start the bike about an hour ago and lo and behold it wouldn't start with the clock re-setting to 1 am. I'm really pissed off and want to sell it. Any suggestions at to what's wrong with it? Since fitted a new battery to go with the new rectifier and it's going well now. Have just put on a Micron carbon can and it sounds great - it's transformed the bike, and I love it - after a difficult start.
When you say wont start do tou mean it crank's over and wont fire or you press the starter button and nothing happens at all? It could be that the battery is fryed and shorts out internaly when it feels like it. Rob
