Hi gang, For the past few months i have had problems with the battery not charging, at first i thought that it was because i commute a fairly short distance daily (lights on), however, since then the LCD display has failed, though i am fairly certain that it still works as it has made a brief appearance recently, though only until i turned off the ignition, when it wrapped its hand in again.
Having read through other VFR problems, the R/R seems to be the root cause, the battery has been replaced a few weeks ago but still no show for the LCD. Has anyone else had a similar issue with the LCD.
Finally, does anyone know if the LCD is required to work for the Bike to pass its MOT (UK).

    Thanks in advance - Mark

I have to state the obvious and say it seems like it is quite possible (for whatever reason) your LCD display is going bad. Have you tried to see if it works as your battery either has a full charge, and/or a batter charger on it? If it still doesn't work, looks like your LCD has taken a dump. I am not sure if your R/R is going bad and has contributed, but it could be a possibility.

    BTW....welcome to the forum Mark!

Do a voltage check at the battery, idling and 5000 rpm. Shouldn't be any less than 13.5.

When my r/r was bad it was 12.4 at idle (not charging) and 12.7 above that.

I don't think an undercharged battery would cause your LCD to wink out, but anything's possible. Be sure to get a genuine Honda r/r.

There is a fault which affects the 750 and 800 clock assemblies, there is a flexible pcb across the back of the clocks which develops breaks causing intermittent and then permanent problems with the displays or lights, take the clocks off and check for breaks on the pcb, I have replaced more than a few!!!!!!

Have you sorted the fault? If not It may be worth looking at the reg/rec or replacing it and also fit a new battery at the same time. Thats what happened to my Triumph.

I may have a an LCD part of the clocks up for grabs soon because i have purchased a uk set of clocks for my VFR and I still have the lcd part of the original clocks because thats all that was left.
