I have a 1999 VFR with only about 9,000 original miles on it. I am the second owner and acquired it with 1,900 miles on it. At about 6,500 miles while accelerating in 5th gear at 7,000 RPM, the bike popped out of gear. When I let off the gas, it popped back into gear. I changed the oil after that, and found nothing unusual in the oil; no metal or shavings. Again at 8,800 the exact same thing happened again. I am worried that I am doing big damage to the gears and gearbox. Any suggestions? I can't replicate the problem at will, it seems to happen only in Vermont!
UPDATE: I purchased the Evo Factory Pro Shift Kit for $179.99 delivered from MOTOSPORT. The install was fairly tedious and is documented with pictures in this forum by someone else. This has seemed to solve my problem, but time will tell. Clearly the shifts are more positive, crisp, etc.
