I've been away from VFRWorld for years, and I apologize if this has been handled long in the past. It's unlikely that I'm the only one who's had this happen. So, anyway:

I don't ride much anymore, due to age and health, so every year when I need to get the bikes inspected, there's always some new problem. This year, the VFR wouldn't start. So, after going through the suggested troubleshooting procedure, it seemed like the fuel pump was probably frozen. I just finished taking the pump assembly out, and the "intake rubber" for the pre-filter has disintegrated, and I suspect that the pump is probably full of debris. For sure the tank has a lot of solid granulated crud in it. I suspect this is due to the !@#$ ethanol the government has blessed us with.

So, what to do about putting it all back together? Has a consensus formed on this problem? My first thought is to just leave the rubber thingy and the wire mesh off. At least it doesn't look like the tank is rusted, so I don't think I'll have to put a sealer in it.

And, of course, the other question is the injectors. Has anyone gone though this before, and were the injectors clogged? Or had the metal filter cleaned the fuel up before it got there?

    Thanks for reading,

    Bob
