So it's not my vfr800 but a friends. He replaced the regrec 4 year ago with one from wire my bike. About a week ago it left him stranded. Yesterday a new regrec from wire my bike arrived and we decided to hook it up. Once we removed the tail plastic this is what we found Even the second plug is starting to burn.

wow, that must have gotten really hot. When I changed mine over to a yammy r1 r/r, the plug was looking kinda bad, but not that bad. I cut it off and put spade connectors on the wires and plugged it in. the guy from wire my bike did offer to sell me the correct plug, but I still haven't gotten around to it. It's been working over a year now the way I have it.

This is a high-amp connector that needs to be perfect (clean/tight - hard to achieve/maintain) - almost no resistance - or the heat will melt the connector. Direct-wire, or wiring block (also sold by WMB) is the answer. It may be the R/R is still good, once the connector issue is addressed.
