My 1998 VFR has 23k miles when I picked it up last summer. The battery it came with was fine up until I went on a long ride. I gassed up after 80 miles and then tried to start it with no luck. It just clicked like a dead battery but I got it started by bump starting it. The bike charges fine in town but never on extended rides.

I have taken it to the dealer and they checked the charging system and changed the battery. I haven't ridden the bike much this winter but I've started it every two weeks and ran it for 20 minutes. I went for a ride today March 21 for about 20 miles half of that on the interstate. I stopped to get gas then the starting issue returned. It would click but not turn over and it ran after I bump started it. Any thoughts?

FYI: The bike has heated grips and running lights on the mirrors. My guess is that the grips were installed improperly.

MY guess would be that the extra wattage going to lights and grips didn't leave enough extra juce to charge the battery on a short 20 minute ride.......

If grips were improper, fuses would blow.

Have a 1 amp battery charger?? You need one.
