Finally decided to pull the trigger on delinking the brakes on my 1998 VFR 800. I'll post pics and such over the fall and winter as I make progress and hit milestones along the way. I have to give much of the credit to those that have gone before me - I read all of your posts on this site and VFR Discussions and think / hope I have picked the correct direction.

    General Overview
Use VTR forks, CBR954 calipers, two Spiegler stainless steel brake lines connected to a CBR600 F4 5/8" master cylinder. In the rear, will use a stock VFR rear caliper modified as described below, with a single Spiegler stainless steel brakeline connected to a CBR600 F4 14mm rear master cylinder. I intend to rout the rear brakeline through the swing arm.

Step 1 is preparing the rear brake caliper. I purchased a used rear caliper so I did not have to have the bike down while doing much of the prep work. I decided to link the center cylinder with the outer cylinders by drilling a small 1/8" hole in the back of the center cylinder directly above the passage that connects the two outer cylinders. It is a very short distance that you have to drill - maybe only 3-4 mm. I have plugged the center brake line hole with a M10 x 1.25 bolt with copper washer. Will use a single brake line and connect to the outer cylinder brake line port. I cleaned and painted the caliper with gold VHT caliper paint so it will match the future front CBR954 calipers. I have attached pictures of the assembly and finished product.

Step 2 in a few weeks will be to recondition the front CBR954 calipers.

    Stay tuned !
