    Hi,

    I balanced the carbs a few weeks ago on a 97 VFR 750. The first attempt I had at it, I mistook the pilot idle screws for the carb balancing screws. I realised my mistake, and then readjusted them to 2 3/8 turns (or thereabouts) according to the Haynes manual.

    However, it revved off the charts. I had to turn the screws out quite a bit more to bring down the revs. I didn't think of checking the idle adjustment at the time, so I may have adjusted the pilot idle screws to the main idle.

    My question is now, I think the bike is running a bit rich, as I can smell petrol fumes and the mpg has dropped a bit. What is the best course of action? Does turning the pilot screws IN make the mixture leaner or richer?

    Sorry if that sounds confused!

    In= leaner

    This is a job easy to screw up unless the proppa sequence is observed, starting with the master carb that's controlled by the idle adjuster.

    I backed it out to 2 3/8 turns, played with the main idle, and now it's running sweet.
