1997 vfr 750

    I was wondering if anyone has had a problem with their bike losing it`s hydraulic oil from the clutch master cylinder? I`m about to do some work on the bike for a pal of mine. Albeit doesn`t need much, 4000 dry miles and then to be sold, as he doesn`t use it. Any help will be greatly appreciated, many thanks, thorpey.

    Is it coming from the area surrounding the lid or from the piston area? Either way it sounds like a "failed rubber" part.

    Thanks for the quick response. Not 100% sure yet as i haven`t investigated the bike properly. You`re probably right about the rubber failing. I was just hoping that there might have been a common fault, to save me a bit of time, lazy i suppose! Cheers, thorpey.

    There's a rubber diaphram in there that's designed to expand as fluid level drops. Chances are it was pinched during a previous install. Good luck. It's all minor unless it gets on your paint.

    Pull the slave and see if there is crusty, dried fluid in the recess.

    Also, fluid can slowly seep out the siteglass and evaporate with no trace. Takes about 3 months before you have to add fluid.

    Crystal watch glass replacements with BLACK RTV to seal solves this issue.

    Hmmm never had a problem with this on my two I've had and currently have. as noted. be careful not to get any fluid on the paint, take the cover off, look for the obvious, re bleed all should be good. pretty easy and straight forward unless you need a new sealing boot then there's the ordering wait time line. But I've never seen a bad Diaphragm boot. next would be a blown seal on the slave, those I've seen go bad, not on mine, but others.
