I bought some paint from color-rite R158P Pure Red Pearl , the base is with a color-rite base 1618 which is also a red, the problem I have is after doing some tests with the base then the color it is a lot darker red, that with just one the base and 1 coat of top, it almost makes sense to have the base a white and keep adding coats of the red top coat which is very translucent until you have the correct shade of red, I can tell right now there is no way to get a color match with the red base, has anyone else had this problem , any info would be much appreciated

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I was told that because of the two step base/top coat process the color R158P Pure Red Pearl is a notoriously difficult color to match perfectly Crxnug.

I bought my old '97 VFR750 used. The upper fairing and all the side panels had damage on them, ironically there was no damage at all on the tail section panels. The odd thing was all those scuffs, scrapes, and broken panels didn't appear to be crash damage.
It literally seemed as though the previous owner had no clue what a side stand was used for and simply parked the bike on whatever side it happened to fall over onto.
I was able to repair most of the panels but ended up having to replace the lower left fairing panel with a new one because it was damaged so badly.

I took my panels to a very reputable paint shop that as I found out had worked with the R158P many times before. They told me that it was darned near impossible for them to get an accurate paint match for the R158P because of the two step process and the only way that they could absolutely guarantee me a perfect paint match was to paint the entire bike. It didn't really cost me all that much more so that's what I ended up doing.

It sucked large though having to peel the decal off of a brand new $500.00 panel that I'd just purchased and then head back out to the Honda dealer to pay $75.00 for a new one.
In the end I have to say that it was worth it because the paint work was flawless and in the sunlight the bike looked like a jewel.
