I have a 1995 VFR and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how far the forks should be protruding from the clip-ons? I think the previous owner may have dropped the height on the front end and I want to make sure I get it back to the correct height.

I think I found the answer. Does 39mm sound correct?

Protruding from the CLIP-ONS? Um no. Not stock they don't.

My 95, which has the fork snap ring that seats against the bottom of the top triple clamp... top of the clip-on to top of the fork cap is 8.5mm

That is the gap under the circlip to the clip ons? My tubes are all the way tall. I would like to lower it about one inch . Thanks,MM

What?! No 8.5mm is top of the clip on to top of the fork cap, as typed.

I thought these forks had a snap ring below the triple clamp as well to limit how much they are slid up when assembling. My apologies.

When you say "lower it" do you mean the front end or the forks? If you want to lower the front end, then loosen the fork pinch bolts and slide the forks up. How you safely do that, and how far, is up to you. One inch is a fairly big first step imo.

If you are saying you want to return to stock, then slide the forks down to the measurement I reported.

lowering (raising forks) more than 10mm isn't recommended by suspension experts. at 1" you're gonna bottom out dangerously.

I dropped it about 10 MM and kept the bars at the top of the tubes. Better. Thanks,MM
