My 1994 750 wouldn't start after I briefly turned the bike off at a long (punishment) stop light. When the ignition key is turned on, no lights appear in the instrument panel and the clock quickly fades. When the ignition is turned off the clock is on. This makes me think there is some kind of short in the ignition switch or some other place? Any ideas? I was able to jump start the bike by doing a rolling start but after a minute or two the it ran extremely rough and I just had to turn it off. I had the rectifier replaced about 30,000 miles ago. Any ideas or experiences you may have on this?

    Thanks!

    Todd

Check where the ignition connects to the starter solenoid.

Grounds !! Check, clean, refresh ground (chassis) connections.

If you have a bad connection, that's not related to a short unless fuses start blowing. You can check the ignition switch with a multimeter, and you should try to find the main plug between the ignition switch and wiring harness, pull it apart and clean the connections.
