Hey guys so i just got this bike ( '94 VFR 750F) a month or so ago and after the first day or two i noticed it takes a lot of playing to start up fully, basically ill pull the choke and sit there for a few minutes holding the starter button (idk if it has a fancy name) it starts then dies then starts then dies then starts runs for a second then dies and ill repeat this for a few minutes until it starts runnin a bit then ill ease the choke and play with it for a minute then after about 5 minutes of all this she fires up and runs like a champ. Just wondering what this problem could be? my buddy suggested a fuel problem but hes not too familiar with the VFR, just curious of anyone else has had this problem and if and how they fixed it? Other Info: I bought the bike with 28k miles (no past maintenance history i know a bad idea but my mechanic friend checked it out and for the price it was a good deal) so i'm gonna be taking her in for a oil-change/tune up once i get the money. After shes all warmed up and i did that whole deal she runs beautifully, strong engine super throaty and awesome. Totally appreciate any help gents, Climbtrees Dv
Cleaning the carbs is always a good or the first place to start. Partially clogged pilot jet is common if left to sit for very long. Gen 4 is by far the easiest to R/I the carbs on so the horror stories do not apply and it is a quick job to clean the jets.
Ream out your choke circuit long brass pick up tubes with a stiff steel .012" wire (to a depth of about 30mm) after you clean the pilot jets.
