My VFR has several issues, but in order to help others with similar problems be able to search and find solutions, I'm going to post seperately. Please tell me if this is bad etiquette. I purchased a 93 VFR a year ago with 60,000 miles on it. It runs great and has a good amount of power and great gas mileage. The problem I have noticed since I bought it is that it will sometimes knock at idle without choke on... It sounds like piston slap, and it goes away as soon as you give it gas. I have never noticed this at any other time other than when it is idling. I don't know when the last carb clean or valve adjustment was, but I'd bet its overdue. Any ideas?

What happens when you pull the clutch, could be just clutch rattle

Could be clutch, listen by the right engine cover and see if It's coming from there. It's quite normal, especially with those miles. 4th gen engines were notorious for a knock in the head at idle from low oil pressure. Honda deemed it normal and not anything to be concerned about, dont know if the 3rd gen is affected, however.

Carbs need sync. Being 1/8 turn off on a sync screw is enough to make the V4 sound like it's gonna come apart at idle.

    Guarantee it

^what he said above. Right on the money. Balance your carbs and that noise will go away.
