As was evidenced by my previous effort, electricity is NOT my strong point. While chasing my previous problem, I took a good look at the bike's R/R - a factory stock Shnidnengen 236-12. Wiring appears good, no signs of overload or corrosion - BUT with a 26 year old unit that is known to be problematic, it is time for a preemptive strike. From what I have read here and other places, the newer FH-20AA R/R should work - I have the 3 stator wires and two sensor wires that these units require.

Any input, guidance, suggestions for the what to use or installation tips are welcome.

Hi Jeff. Check out roadstercycle.com. They have the complete kit available. You can contact Jack there if you have any questions.
    Good luck.

Both my gen 3s have his stuff. Good doode  make sure you cut the plug down on right side mid fairing that connects the stator, use solder and shrink tubing, (I do butt connectors with a crimp then solder.) Pictures are appreciated specially when you got such a super duper bike :worthless: just saying

I looked at his information - that's where I found the diagram that makes me think they will work with this bike. I have asked for his advice.

Pleased to hear that others have been successful with this mod.

One of the responses suggests cutting the stator wires mid length - I realize the goal is to replace the existing R/R and connector - so just join to the remaining pieces of wire and connect up the new unit? I understand from Jack's diagram that I should also run new wires direct to the battery to establish good connections and to eliminate undersized wiring/bad connectors in the existing harness. Seems like something even I can handle!

Didn't think to take any pictures while I was working on it - will do so when I change out the R/R

Do me and BB a favour and don't take pictures of your r/r please!~ Btw, my stock r/r lasted 20 years and 65,000 miles. Anyway, you get the new Roadstar unit, you disconnect your battery, you access your r/r, on the right side of the bike, you un-bolt it and diconnect it from the harness, you then are gona cut the three yellows from the harness on the bike and connect them to the three yellows on the new r/r. The remaining red/black wire your gona put a butt-connector on the end with some shrink tubing, (idea being is to just isolate them.) The new red/black from the Roadstar unti your gona run right to the terminals of the battery. Job done. :mech: If you lived near me, I would do it for you cause I am nice guy :loco: :peace: :koolaid:
