ok So i bought the bike for 850$ and it needed the carbs rebuilt and the clutch replaced so I had the local shop do it all, they came out with a total of 850 to do everthing out the door. I am not good with bikes that is why I had them do it. I know I could save money doing it myself, I just dont want to spend all my free time on it . So please just tell me if it is worth the 850 I spent to fix as well as the 850 to buy it. 1700 for the whole thing 19000 miles on it has the lockhart fairings and the tires are new and the chain was changed last year. was not droped.

Me being new to vfr's I can't say about the clutch, stock?
But what my buddy has told me the carbs can and are a big pain in the arse to work on! Expecially w/o a sync tool. Giving 350-400 for the carbs, then the rest for the clutch I don't see it being to bad. Oil change was probably thrown on there too in cost, or atleast oil to refill the case after opening the clutch cover I feel it seems fair!

I'm kinda in the same boat, had a guy give me an 86 700 and so far.I'm in 300 for tires, 40 for oil/filter, 120 for chain and sprockets, 36 for a replacement for the crappy K&N filter, 15 for coolant and I havnt touched the brakes, leaky clutch slave cylinder, choke cable and unfortunatly the carbs!

All in all if its worth it to you is the real question!
Hop on ride it and enjoy. Now if you shouldn't have to worry about the carbs for a long while! Just remeber to add a fuel stabilizer if your not gonna ride it for a while

Cheers and enjoy your new bike.

IMO...If you like the bike, it was worth the money.

change the clutch yourself next time and add slick50 carb cleaner it will solve all problems.. but i would ask for a detailed list of work performed and parts prices sounds high to me clutch takes 30 minutes guess they changed oil too carb rebuild a day if they vat it for 12 hours...but all in all 1700 for a bike that runs good fresh clutch and rebuilt carbs sounds good...can you show the work order like to see that...

It'snot a good idea to ask about prices after you had the work done. "Ignorance is bliss."
