Hey guys, I have a 1986 VFR750F that I had to lay down into a truck 14 years ago. It's been in my garage ever since and I am now working on putting it back together. I was sitting on it tonight and I noticed that when I turn all the way to the left, the bar touches the tank. If I go all the way to the right there is an inch or two space between the tank and the bars. What if anything could be crooked or out of whack?

Easiest, check to see if the handle bar indicating bolt is sheared off. Will require loosening of the clamps & see if you can rotate it more than 1/16 - 1/8". Otherwise could be frame damage:eek:

I'll bet the bar has slipped on the clamp. Those frames are preety tough. Is this the same side you laid it down on?

As said, check if readjusting will fix it. The clipons will bend quite a bit, enough to hit the tank, before ever breaking the retaining numb. If that's the case, replacement if the best fix but I have had a machine shop press one straight again.

The triples/forks could be tweaked also; loosen everything up, realign, and tighten.

Thanks, I looked at the handlebar on that side and it is straight. The only thing that looks out of place is the top bolt on the triple tree holding it onto the fork on that side. The bold is busted in half. All the others look ok. If I replace that bolt, loosen everything up and re-tighten, do you think it should be alright?

Probably, sounds like the fork tube twisted in the clamp; may want to examine those triple really close if it took enough impact to snap a bolt in half though.
