    Hello,

LOng time motorcycle hobbiest who has decided to make a 1985 VF500F his latest project. (There is something to be said for plentiful parts and cheap insurance).

I have been reading about in Europe & England the vf500f was released in a F2 variant... If I understand there are differences with the F2 (for which there does not seem to be an absolute list)... But ....what I want to know did any of these differences apply to the 1986 VF500F found in the U.S. and Canada?

    THank you
    Tony H.

Yes. I suggest you do a bit of research. Not hard to find.

England............. Surely you mean United Kingdom, as there are 2 countries attaché and one a short way across some water.

FII had a full fairing in Europe apart from that I don't really know.

found this in my search for you.

    What differences have you found?

One of the main ones will be the electrics as certainly the US uses daytime running lights on the indicators.

    vf500F vs VF500F F2

Go to page 2 of this forum and towards the bottom you will find a message thread on this exact subject. the fact that you have an '85 makes a big difference however, since major changes occurred in the engine. you can't use many engine parts from '86 on your '85 so it all depends on what your plans are for the bike.

Thank you for the replies everyone.

U.K. You can imagine over here in Canada when its late at night... all the countries blurrrrrr U.K. E.U. blah P.U. :)

My bike is a typical $500 wreck that has been own by the many modern young gentlemen of our times.... They have no pride in anything they do and certainly can't look after much more then their haircut!

My bike has the correct frame & engine S/N for an 86. It Makes no sense to me how these 2 are not identical numerically...( like every previous bike I've owned before the vf500f.) It ALSO has an 86 oil pan where the drain plug is located in the middle with a small angle. All bikes in N.A. the headlight on all the time and running lights in the front signals and over the license plate.

My plan is a restoration to factory build, with CBR F2 front and rear wheels, everything else stock. I might be able to try getting it to start this weekend or next. Tonight i drained the float bowls... wasn't gas anymore but not sludge either so....

I'll post results of the startup attempt!

    Tony
